Ernest Kunz resides on the coast of southwest Washington State overlooking the Willapa River and the small, quaint town of South Bend. While Ernest is extremely capable in many marketable fields, his first love has always been producing artistic pieces that reflect nature and enrich both individuals and communities. He has lived in Alaska’s remote wilderness and has traveled to many National Parks and Wildlife refuges where he gathers new experiences and subjects for his artistic works.

Kunz’s work has been described as Contemporary Impressionism. He holds a degree from a commercial art college and has had the privilege of studying under the renowned Russian painter Surgay Bongart whose free style has added some spontaneity to Kunz’s subjects. Ernest combines strong values and composition with rich color, forming works of timeless beauty. Though realistic in his painting technique, Kunz uses light to add to the abstract patterns that he finds in nature. His oil paintings have won numerous awards and are appreciated in Europe and other countries and around the world. In 2007 Ernest traveled to Italy to study the art of marble carving.

In addition to his oils, Ernest Kunz has done magazine and book illustrations, unique signage, wall murals, outdoor steel and concrete sculptures, outdoor furnishings and arbors, and decorative iron gates. His larger pieces and murals have been created on site, while smaller sculptures and paintings are done in either his art studio or his large steel studio. Ernest Kunz is willing to design unique commissioned pieces for or with the client and to travel wherever necessary to complete and install his original pieces.
